One of the main issues on the agenda was the debate on the career plan for pastors and teachers of religion. As the members of the working group preparing the proposal, Rev. Máté Joób and Rev. Péter Kendeh pointed out, there had been a need to regulate the salaries and other benefits of pastors for over two decades. If the ELCH wants to maintain its identity as a church based on congregations, the task of ensuring the spiritual, mental and financial well-being of its pastors can no longer be neglected.
The members of the Synod adopted the proposal with clear majority. The law will take effect as of 1 January 2019.
